The 39th International Scientific and Expert Meeting of Gas Professionals will be held as is custom on 8.-10. May at the Congress Center of the Grand Hotel Adriatic in Opatija and organised by the Croatian Gas Association (CGA), as a member of the International Gas Union (IGU) and the Croatian Gas Centre Ltd. The three-day international conference and exhibition are dedicated to natural gas, liquid natural gas (LNG) and low-carbon solutions and is one of the largest such events in Southeast Europe.
Participation in the gathering will provide the opportunity to meet with leaders from the gas and LNG sectors in the Republic of Croatia and more than 20 other countries. The previous 38th INTERNATIONAL MEETING OF GAS PROFESSIONALS helped establish a business network involving a large number of experts from the sector and from more than 30 countries, creating new partnerships and new projects over the decades, along with an opportunity for pleasant socialising in Opatija. The gathering will be attended by 500 renowned gas and energy professionals from more than 20 countries, with about 50 reputable lecturers and exhibitors having already confirmed their arrival. The interesting conference program will cover ten current thematic units, a number of interactive panel discussions and a poster section on the most current themes from the gas and energy industries.
The introductory section of the conference will address trends in the natural gas market and future expectations on the path to a reliable low-carbon energy system, followed by a panel discussion with the participation of reputable professionals who will offer their thoughts and answers to current issues.
The representative of the Croatian Hydrocarbon Agency, will hold a professional presentation on the theme of the role of permanent carbon dioxide disposal in achieving net zero emissions. Experts from the company INA Plc (INA-Industrija nafte d.d.), will present a paper on the discovery of gas in Veliki Rastovac: a potentially new gas region on mainland Croatia. Experts from the company Underground Gas Storage Ltd. (Podzemno skladište plina d.o.o.) will hold a lecture on the production of natural gas at the Grubišno Polje exploitation field and preparatory activities for the development of the reservoir with the purpose of forming underground gas storage.
An important aspect of the upcoming conference will be presentations of several expert papers on the challenges and opportunities in the decarbonisation of the future gas and LNG value chain, as well as the use of smart technologies, innovations and digital translations in the gas sector. The focus will also be on the development potential of LNG terminals, their future role in the European gas infrastructure and liquefied natural gas (LNG) technology. Experts from the company LNG Croatia will present a model of joint use of the terminal for LNG on the island of Krk. The representative of the company Chart Industries will present cryogenic technologies as the path to energy independence and security by using LNG at a small scale and entering the hydrogen economy.
The conference will also address the contribution of natural gas and gases from renewable sources in achieving a sustainable transport system. Numerous domestic and foreign experts will present papers on difficulties associated with the transport, distribution, storage and utilisation of natural gas with respect to securing an effective, reliable and low-carbon gas system. The representative of the company from CMS Zagreb will present a proposed directive on common rules for the internal market for gas from renewable sources and natural gas, including hydrogen – the step toward the decarbonisation of the gas market. There will also be talk of protecting consumers in gas distribution systems and the impact of calorific values.
